How to log in Outlook

How to log in Outlook?

Even though new versions of Outlook and Office have appeared, Microsoft continues to support older versions as well as a few additional years.

Support expiration dates are split between "mainstream" and "extended", for which you'll find an explanation below the support expiration date table.

Microsoft Office 365 has a different lifecycle that is explained at the end of this guide but briefly; This version is always supported.

Mainstream vs. Extended Support

Button: The main differences between mainstream and extended support are as follows;
  • During mainstream support, the update may include bug fixes, feature changes, and security improvements.
  • During extended support, the updates mainly focus on security updates. Non-security updates can still be included under special circumstances or when specifically requested (see next point).
  • To request non-security updates during extended support, you will need to purchase extended hotfix support.
As an end-user, you rarely realize the difference between the two as updates will still be provided until an extended support date is found.

However, when a product reaches its mainstream support date, it is generally recommended to start planning to upgrade to a newer version.

You only need to know about 2 things;
With the "Release Channel", you can control when and how often you can get new features and updates. For more information, see; Why can't I get the latest updates for Office 365, Outlook 2019 or Outlook 2016?

    By default, Office 365 is configured to automatically update itself, but you can also manually check for updates.
